Trumansburg Rotary's Service Above Self awards program is seeking nominations for the current Academic Year to reward and recognize youth who exemplify Rotary's motto, “Service Above Self,” and who live “Rotary's 4-Way Test” in their everyday lives.
Of the things we think, say, or do - Is it the Truth? Is it Fair to All Concerned? Will it Build Goodwill and Better Friendships? Will it be Beneficial to All Concerned?
Nominee’s Qualifications
Student exemplifies Service Above Self: Student demonstrates commitment to unselfish volunteer service.
Student is Truthful:Student demonstrates honesty, high ethical standards, trustworthiness, integrity, self-discipline, and responsibility. Student arrives on time, comes prepared, completes tasks/assignments, and follows rules and regulations.
Student is Fair to all Concerned:Student demonstrates ability to work with and motivate others, has sound values, good judgment, a sense of fairness, and has earned the respect of their peers. Student handles success and defeat with maturity and a positive attitude.
Student Builds Goodwill and Better Friendships: Student is courteous, helpful, and compassionate towards others. Student's positive attitude is reflected in the climate and culture of their endeavors.
Student's Efforts and Endeavors are Beneficial to All: Student takes the initiative, readily and unselfishly helping others. Student is diligent, actively participates, and continually strives to the limits of their abilities. Student is committed to making a difference in their school and/or community.

Who can be nominated?
Charles O. Dickerson High School students (grades 9-12) or homeschool students (grades 9-12) within the Trumansburg Central School District.
Students who have not received this award within the current academic year.
Who can nominate a student?
Anyone who is personally acquainted with the student.

Nomination and Awards Process
One student will be selected for the Service Above Self award each month (September - June) during the Academic School Year for a total of nine students.
Trumansburg Rotary, in collaboration with Charles O. Dickerson High School, will advertise the Service Above Self award process throughout the Trumansburg community.
Trumansburg Rotary will receive and review the Service Above Self award nominations, and will select each month’s student to award.
Trumansburg Rotary will notify the Charles O. Dickerson High School Principal of each month’s selected student.
Trumansburg Rotary will ask the parent(s)/legal guardian(s) of each month’s selected student to sign a consent form for use of the student's photo and bio in the press, on websites, and in social media.
Trumansburg Rotary will contact each month’s selected student to congratulate them on their Service Above Self award.
Each month’s selected student will be featured in the local press, at Charles O. Dickerson High School, and on the Trumansburg Rotary Facebook page and website.
Each month’s student, nominator, and parent(s)/legal guardian(s) will be invited to attend a Trumansburg Rotary dinner and meeting. The student will be asked to give a short talk about themselves and their service, and to address the topic, “How can I make the world a better place?” Rotary will present the student with an award and a $50 gift certificate from a local business. Depending on COVID-19 conditions, the Rotary meeting may be held via Zoom.
Trumansburg Rotary will select one of the nine Service Above Self award recipients for the Annual Service Above Self Award in June. The student will receive additional recognition and a $1,000 cash prize.
